  • APPLIANCE INTERFACE PROTOTYPES
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • data design
    • XML structure/logic
  • This is one of a series of interface prototypes produced for a major appliance manufacturer for usability testing. These prototypes are a very cost effective way for users to interact with your product without having to build an actual interface. This interface prototype simulates a very complex set of rules and conditions for a high end microwave device. It is driven by a complex XML definition file that provides all the methods, functions and ingredients available to a user. By using an XML definition this prototype is uniquely customizable and easy to update based on findings while testing the product.

    • external API integration
  • Leveraging their already existing employee and security badge photo databases this interactive intranet phone directory serves not only as a convenient phone extension reference tool but also provides useful information such as current weather conditions, upcoming bus arrivals, news bulletins, and mustering information. Additionally it allows for visual customizations of ocean related background animations and custom color selection.
  • G2SWITCHWORKS PROTOTYPE
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • interface design
  • Upstart company g2Switchworks wanted a powerful tool to communicate it's vision to potential investors. This prototype simulated all of the unique features and functions that they wanted to provide with their product.
  • VIBES TEXT CHAT SYSTEM
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • interface design
    • visual design
  • Vibes media wanted to leverage their backend instant messaging software by providing a virtual chat room in bars where patrons feed text messages to large, animated plasma displays for everyone to see and share. This Flash front end seamlessly interfaces with their backend software to make the experience fluid and fun.

    • programming
    • interface design
    • illustration
  • When the Shedd Aquarium designed their new invasive species exhibit they wanted a way to communicate the unique challenges of trying to control and prevent the introduction of invasive species to our local waterways. This program challenges the user to control the advance of a variety of real-life invaders, into a fictional fresh water system. Only by carefully balancing time, resources and techniques can the player hope to contain the ever looming threat.
  • WTTW QUIZ PROGRAM
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • interface design
  • WTTW wanted to launch an online quiz companion to their new Women's Health Secrets section of their web site. This quiz was carefully designed to be easy to port to any future areas of the site. It implements detailed XML based style definitions that allow WTTW to easily customize the quiz to any look and feel. The questions and answers are also defined in an easy to customize XML and it interfaces with a back end database for collecting user feedback and usage statistics.
  • INTERACTIVE PUPPETS
    • What I Did
    • concept
    • programming
    • interface design
    • illustration
    • character design
  • Originally created for a variety show on Telemundo, this puppet program uses microphone input to animate mouth movements and provides a variety of possible moods and props to be controlled by the puppeteer. It was re-designed for the Indianapolis Children's Hospital as a closed circuit virtual game show host that interacts with bed bound patients right in their rooms while they hold phone conversations with the virtual puppet on their TV screens. More recently it was ported to be used at the Shedd Aquarium to interact with school groups by the educational staff.
  • SHEDD FISH ID SYSTEM
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • interface design
  • This is a Flash based port of a pre-existing, database-driven, fish ID system. When the original developer became unresponsive and retained all source code, the Shedd Aquarium had to find a way to keep the Fish ID system for the Wild Reef and Amazon Rising exhibits up to date and modifiable. The Flash port is very close to the original compiled program and also draws from the same aquarist maintained database to provide a custom selection of species for each tank on exhibit. The new version, however, uses a single master program that looks for a very simple XML station definition file from which it determines to which of the two exhibits and what tank it belongs to and customizes itself accordingly based on the fish collection database and custom assets for each exhibit. This approach greatly reduced the maintenance cost and time and well as maximized the display up-time. The new slim and fast Flash version runs on small, all-in-one computer touch screens that can be swapped out in a matter of seconds in case of failure.
  • ENSERVIO ONLINE INVENTORY
    • What I Did
    • javascript
    • DHTML
    • design
  • Insurance valuation service provider Enservio wanted to provide a home inventory tool for insurance claims. Because it was assumed that users may have lost access to more modern computers we wrote this tool to work with considerably older browser technology that we would have otherwise used. We still wanted to provide a rich experience so we employed custom Javascript and jQuery libraries in the implementation. Additionally the entire site was designed to be easily co-branded to suit each customer's needs.
  • VHT BUYER CONNECT PROTOTYPE
    • What I Did
    • programming
    • interface design
    • visual design
